The Interact Club at Barrington High School in conjunction with the Barrington/Warren Rotary Club recently held a fund-raising dinner and raised more than $3,000 to benefit Haiti.

Tom Wallis remembers when his parents, Russell and Louise Wallis, first opened Wallis Seafood in a small store near the corner of Bay Spring Avenue and Washington Road. “They started in pretty tiny quarters with $500 and a used pick-up truck,” he said. That was 50 years ago.

Three weeks ago the Nayatt School community welcomed Joseph A. Militello, the second interim principal at the elementary school this academic year. Mr. Militello replaced John Gray who acted as interim principal for the first semester.

ArtsAlive! and the Nayatt School PTO present Peter Pan this weekend at Barrington High School. The production, directed by Dena Davis, will combine the talents of 141 elementary school students in a 120-minute version of the classic tale.

A grandfather, son and grandson, all wearing a scout uniform of some kind, were at the pinewood derby held in the cafeteria of Barrington Middle School. Thirty-three cub scouts in Pack 2, West Barrington, raced their pinewood derby cars. Among the scouts was nine year old Jamie Boylan.

MOMS club gets moms and children together
East Bay MOMS (Moms Offering Moms Support) Club has been a place for moms and their children to connect for several years. On Thursday, Jan. 19, the group held an open house in Bristol, open to current and prospective members throughout the East Bay. A group of new and established members chatted at the event while their children were held in their arms or played inside the building.

Meet Peter Johnson: Professor of English, 'boy author,' former construction worker
Barrington resident Peter Johnson has edited magazines and collections of prose poetry, written stories for young people, and is a professor of literature and creative writing at Providence College. He is currently on sabbatical to work on his own books. His latest, “The Amazing Adventures of John Smith, Jr., AKA Houdini” is set in Rhode Island.

The Rhode Island Aviation Hall of Fame will induct six new members, present a seldom-given President’s Award and recognize the service of two others at a ceremony and dinner to be held at the Varnum Armory in East Greenwich on Feb. 4. The President’s Award will be given to Barrington resident Michael Gold.
