More local results

MIDDLETOWN — The East Bay Warriors claimed a spot in the Rhode Island-Southeastern Massachusetts Pop Warner Football League Pee Wee Division championship after the locals defeated the Old Rochester Bulldogs, 18-0, in the opening round of the playoffs, Oct. 30, at the Gaudet Middle School.

The Warriors offense was led by the great play calling of head coach Jason "Pretty Boy" Proulx. East Bay opened up the days scoring in the second quarter. Matt Ditondo scampered off left end to give the Warriors an early 6-0 lead. Ditondo scored two more touchdowns in the second half as the East Bay offense continued to grind out some tough yards behind the great blocking of Zaccary Francis, Neil Thibaudeau, Caden Cabral, Ashton Begin, Jeff Silvia, and Coby Castriotta.

Defensively, the Warriors held the Bulldogs to one first down and less than 50 yards of total offense. Key players on defense were Val Aiello, Aaron Rocha, Jeremy Thiboutot, Ryan Ramos, Trevor Arruda, DJ Machado, and Damien Mendoza.

East Bay hosts the Edgewood Eagles in the RISMA Pee Wee championship game at noon Saturday, Nov. 5, at Vets Park in Warren.

EB Jr. Pee Wees

The East Bay Warriors Jr. Pee Wees finished the season with a 13-0 loss to a tough Portsmouth team in the opening round of the RISMA playoffs at Durfee High in Fall River.

The Warriors played hard throughout the game and shut out the Patriots in the second half, but they could not overcome a 13-0 halftime deficit and had a hard time moving the ball consistently on offense.

Coach Ted Moskala would like to thank his assistant coaches, team moms, team volunteers and parents for a great season in which the Jr. Pees finished with a regular season record of 7-1.

The players who accomplished such so much this year are: Vinny Beretto, AJ Bernado, Dylan Berube, Devon Borges, Zach Burke, Colin Case, Matt Defelice, Ben Dube, Darren Ellinwood, Marc Furtado, Nick Gerling, Shane Hollands, Ben Iiams, Joey Lane, Nicholas Lannigan, James Marshall, Dylan Martins, Max Moskala, Aaron Myers, Cam Nappi, Joey Penkala, Jayden Pereira, Nick Pierotti, Josh Pompey, Devin Proulx, Tyler Rego, Jack Serbst, Eric Sousa, Gage Stephenson, Colin Sullivan, Alex Tainsh, Steven Viau, and Nick Viveiros. The Jr Pee Wees would like to wish the Pee Wees good luck in the RISMA championship.

Barrington results

The Barrington Ullucci Sports Medicine Midgets lost a hard fought game to the Middletown Islanders by a 34-14 score Sunday, Oct. 30, in the opening round of the Rhode Island-Southeastern Massachusetts Pop Warner Football League playoffs.

Middletown struck first about midway through the 1st quarter. The Eagles answered with a 65 yard drive largely on the back of fullback Jack Fortin. Fortin punched it in from the 3 yard line. Neither team converted a PAT and the score was knotted 6-6. Just before halftime, the Islanders hit paydirt again, sweeping left and right on the Eagles. Middletown converted a one-point run conversion for a 13-6 halftime lead.

Midway through the third quarter, the Islanders stretched their lead to 20-6 on another sweep and PAT. But the Eagles answered shortly thereafter when Colin Vatter took a bootleg 55 yards for the score. Adding a two-point kick PAT, the Eagles were only down 20-14 late in the third. But on the ensuing Middletown possession, the Isles’ QB busted a broken play right up the middle for an offsetting 60 yard scoring run. This took the wind out of the Barrington boys. The Eagles fought valiantly down the stretch but could never quite contain the speedy, shifty Middletown runners. Middletown moves on to play Edgewood in the RISMA championship next Saturday in Warren.

Jr. Pee Wees

The Junior Pee Wees closed out their season with a big victory over the Dighton-Rehoboth Falcons, 20-6. Cold, pounding rain created huge puddles and thick mud at Nike Park in Rehoboth, but the Eagles toughed it out for the win.

Quarterback Ben Silvia ran the ball for two well-earned touchdowns, grinding the ball up field a few yards at a time. Running back Will Rywolt added a third score to put the game out of reach for the Falcons. Running Backs Nick Roach and Zach Newberg carried the ball for critical yards, led by fantastic blocks from backs Peter Burgess and Jake Soares. Center Nick “Figs” Figueroa was outstanding despite slippery conditions, aided by the rock-solid offensive line of Cole Glazzard, Jon Adamson, Mike McLaughlin, Lucas Wilson-Wuestefeld and Sam Soares.

The Eagles “Monster Offense” unit also delivered important yardage in the game, driving the football deep into Falcon territory on several key drives. QB Chuck Ballou led the unit masterfully, with powerful run support from Sydney Hoover, Ben Silva and Noah Werbel. Center Hunter Norris did a fantastic job snapping the slippery pigskin, and Monster O got great blocking from the line of Owen Valentine, Jake Lentz, Matt DePasquale, Kyle Greenberg, Charlie Paras and Calvin Hennessey .

It was defense however that saved the day for the Eagles once again. Tough tackles by Foster Egan, Matt Walczak and Oskar Schnippering stuffed the D-R run throughout the game and recovered several fumbles. Defensive ends/safeties Robert Cahill and Meredith Kaplan helped contain the outside, holding the Falcons to just a few meaningful gains all day.

Head coach Todd Rywolt would like to thank the coaching staff of Jon Adamson, Mike Silvia, Ed Figueroa, Chris Glazzard, Mike Hoover, Randy Kaplan and Ben Coogan for the countless hours of work and tireless dedication they brought throughout the season.

Tiny Mites

The Anderson Motors Tiny Mites finished off their rookie season with a big win over Dighton-Rehoboth. Quarterback James Anderson connected to running back Dante Salvaggio for two touchdowns and running back Bryan Ivatts for another. The offensive line did a fantastic job showing their blocking skills and holding back D-R to make the plays happen. Great blocking came from Jack Ackerman, Davis Johnson, Connor Huard, David Raposa, Riley Greene, Gavin Ouhrabka, Ben Bamford and Christopher DeSisto. Aiding the Eagles’ ground attack were running backs, Dominic Tuttonbene, Beck Kegelman, Josh Diiorio and Huard.

The Eagles’ defensive did a great job breaking up the Dighton-Rehoboth offense with excellent work coming from Jacob Feldman, Raj Napolillo, and Jackson Horn. Back field pressure was brought by Raposa, Kegelman, Tuttobene, and Anderson. Big tackles were made by Liam Haynes, Johnson, Greene and Ivatts. Congratulations to this group of young rookies on a great year of learning the game and finishing strong.
