On Friday morning at 11 a.m., the United Veterans Council of Barrington will honor those who have served in the armed forces with a ceremony in front of town hall at the Honor Roll.
Veterans Day is Nov. 11, the day the country dedicates to the nation’s military service people. The event will include laying of wreaths at the honor roll and at the veteran’s memorial just outside the town hall building.
Retired U.S. Navy Captain James A. Quinn will be the keynote speaker.
Michael W. Tripp, president of the Barrington United Veterans Council said they are asking residents to submit names to be added to the honor roll. Contact Mr. Tripp at 434-7200 for more information.
Veterans walk
A Veterans Day walk will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m.
The walk, sponsored by the Barrington Land Conservation Trust, will be held in Veterans Memorial Park, which has been renovated through the efforts of many groups in town including the Conservation Commission, Barrington Preservation Society, the Bayside Family YMCA, veterans, Boy Scout groups and others.
New sign kiosks have been installed throughout the park, honoring all veterans. The free walk will take place rain or shine and will be led by Helen Tjader. Walkers should meet at the kiosk near the boat ramp in the park.
Museum exhibit
People can visit Barrington Preservation Society’s museum exhibit “One of Our Own: Barrington Military, 1776 to 1956,” a collection of military uniforms, photographs, original articles, weapons and other war-related items on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The museum is in the lower level of the Barrington Public Library.
