Pop Warner: Eagles bedevil Fairhaven

The Bagels Etc.-sponsored Barrington Eagles Mitey Mites won their fourth game in a row over the weekend as the locals defeated 19-6 over the Fairhaven Blue Devils, 19-6, in a Rhode Island-Southeastern Massacusetts Pop Warner Football League outing Sunday, Oct. 16, at Victory Field in town.

Willam Loew began the scoring on a 65-yard run down the left side behind nice blocks by Timmy Hoag, Andrew Jameison, Luke Gorham and Seth Mitchell. Davis Moore ran in the extra point. The Blue Devils drove down the field, but were eventially stoped by some nice tackles by Alexis Malnerich, Quinn Gaffney, Mark Romano and Eathan Tomulonis.

On the first play of the second half Gaffney ran 70 yards but was pushed out on the two-yard line. Moore scored on the next play with blocks from Charlie West, Matt Peecher and Thamas Rocha. The Eagles defense led by Mike Raffa, Mike Cox, Mike Uriati, noah Mincone and Bridgett Kegelman shut down Fairhaven on the next series.

When the Eagles gothe the ball back they marched down the field behind a line led by Thomas Huard, Casey Bassignani, Drake Van Ness, Ben Elrich and Will Sanchez. Moore ran another one in from 20 yards out around the left side. After a stop by Ben Proulx and Drew Vatter Fairhaven scored on the last play from scrimage to end the scoring.

Jr. Midgets

The Verizon Wireless Jr. Midgets fought hard against a very good Fairhaven team to come away with a 25-13 victory.

Quarterback Matt Zucconi subbing in for the injured Owen Curry led the Eagles offense down the field on several drives while accounting for several first downs on his own. Cadhan Kelly scored three touchdowns and an extra point in some of the hardest running all year behind superb blocking from Teddy Miller, Lucas Dillon, Matt Finn, Brendan Watson, Seth Kourtesis, Vasilios Meltsakos, Tom Kelleher and Nick Rimoshytus.

Nick Dipaola was once again called on to run the ball up the middle and as always was punishing accumulating about 60 yards. Kyle Leste, playing halfback for the first time, stepped up to the challenge running for some hard yards capping it off with a TD run of 15 yards to put the Eagles ahead to stay in the fourth quarter.

The defensive standout of the day was David Kelly who had 3 quarterback sack as well as some nice tackles to stop the Blue Devils from moving down the field. The Eagles defense led by Ben Soares, Teddy Miller, Lucas Dillon, Patrick Fitshugh, Talha Yasin, Patrick Hoover, Seth Kourtesis, Cadhan Kelly and others stepped up when they had to and sealed the deal in the fourth quarter allowing the offense to take a knee as time expired.

Midgets

The Barrington Ullucci Sports Medicine Midget football team beat Fairhaven, 32-6. Tim Faria scored three times, Jack Fortin once and Colin Vatter once. Vatter added the two-point (kick) PAT on the fourth touchdown. Faria’s second touchdown was a 60-yard romp to paydirt.

The offense kept the ball mainly on the ground. Vatter gained large chunks of yardage before putting one in the end zone early in the second half. Other runners included Dave Guglielmo, Cam Reilly, Hiab Hagos, Brandon Huntoon, Pasha Fesenko, Luke Foster and Sam Bonney. Troy Ruggeiro opened huge holes for his compatriots throughout the game.

The defense was solid all evening with stellar play by Bruce Bendheim, Ian Fitzgerald, Erik Earley, Lars Kenyon, Matt DeWolf, Klein Misiurski, Hunter Litthisack and William Kuhn. Faria had one interception.

The Midgets are now 4-2. If they win their last regular season game against Old Rochester next week, they will enter the RISMA league playoffs on Oct. 30.

Jr. Pee Wees

The Barrington Jr. Pee Wees notched their first win of the season on Sunday, defeating the Fairhaven Devils by a score of 18-0. The Eagles dominated both sides of the ball throughout the game.

Fullback Nick "The Beast" Roach had a huge day carrying the ball, with several long rushes to set up his two touchdown runs. Quarterback Ben Silvia did a great job managing the offense and added a touchdown run of his own, juking several defenders on the way into the end zone. Center Nick Figueroa returned from the injured reserve and made perfect shotgun snaps all game.

Defense won the day for the Eagles however, their shutout fueled by constant stops in the backfield for big losses. The defense forced five fumbles, with Defensive End Matt Walczak recovering two and Tackle Jon Adamson adding another. Lucas Wilson-Wuestefeld, a mainstay at offensive guard, also came up strong on defense with a hard tackle at the line of scrimmage to stop a first down. Peter Burgess, Zach Newberg, Robert Cahill and Charlie Paras added key tackles to slow the Devils attack.

Calvin Hennessy, Mike Park, Noah Werbel and Kyle Greenberg also played strong defense, stuffing the run up the middle to cause several "four and out" series for Fairhaven. Barrington plays this Sunday at Old Rochester High School in Mattapoisett.

Pee Wees

The Barrington Pee Wees rolled to 19-0 victory over Fairhaven on Sunday. The Eagles controlled the ball for most of the afternoon with several players adding contributions.

Quaterback Ollie Manlove had two touchdown runs and hooked up with tight end Conor McQueary to complete the PAT. Evan Pomfret continued his fine play, adding a touchdown of his own in the second quarter. Up front, Cam Clegg, Gavin Ridgell, Nick Lowe and John Sullivan paved the way for the Eagles ground game. Finn Kegelman, Declan Curry, Colby Watson and Jake Bassignani gave strong performances from the backfield.

On defense, the Eagles were led by the strong play of Liam McManus, who grabbed two interceptions. Linebackers Ryan Read and Nick Bernardo made stops all over the field and defensive backs Sam Reed, Josh Roy and Hayden Malnerich shut down Fairhaven’s passing game. Andrew Faria, Charles Gugliemlo, and RJ D’Orio stuffed the middle all day limiting the visitors to just two firstdowns on the afternoon.
