Interview with Hampden Meadows School principal

— We interviewed our school principal Mrs. Arlene Miguel at Hampden Meadows. Could you imagine when you walk into KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and see your principal working there? Well that was Mrs. Miguel’s first job when she was 16.

  1. What encouraged you to be a principal? “I was first a teacher and loved it, then I was the director of reading for a school district, after being the reading director of the district I missed being around kids so I applied to be a principal.”

  2. What do you like to do at HMS? “I love being involved with anything that kids and teachers are involved with, such as assemblies and visiting classrooms.”

  3. How long have you been the principal at HMS? “This will be my 13th year as a principal at Hampden Meadows School.”

  4. What is your favorite thing about HMS? “Having great teachers and students, I don’t have to worry because of the great teachers and I love how the students are working hard to learn.”

  5. What is your favorite time at HMS? “When teachers and students get awards for working hard to reach their goal or even if it is when someone works hard to master a subject.”

  6. What did you do before you came to HMS? “I was a principal in Bristol at the Rockwell School.”

  7. How did you become a principal? “I got a degree in college then got a masters degree in reading then a CAGs degree.”

  8. What was your first job? “When I was 16 I had my first job, it was at Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)”

  9. What do you like to do outside of HMS? (Hobbies) “I like to garden and I like walking.”

  10. What is your favorite subject? “When I was in high school and college I liked math a lot but when I got my masters degree in reading, reading was my favorite and it still is.”
