Pet Corner for Kids

— So you might be wondering what this is? This is an advice section about the do’s and don’ts of taking care of dogs.

Here’s a little advice to get you started:

• Do’s: When you get any type of dog be sure to put up a fence around the area you want your dog to be playing in. Be sure there are no gaps! Take your dog to the vet for checkups at least twice a year (but if your dog is sick or hurt take them right away.) Do put gates up when you get a puppy; they could injure themselves trying to go up or down stairs.

• Don’ts: Never give your dog chocolate or any food you’re unsure about. (You might be thinking duh, but lots of people make this mistake). Don’t leave young dogs unattended for long periods of time. Don’t give your dog too many treats. (I know it may be tempting at times but it can lead to health problems later in your dog’s life).

• Now, here is a poem about puppies:

Barking and leaping and twirling all day.

There is truly magic in the way puppies play.

Poem by: Antonia Simmons and Christian Black.
