Science Corner: making crystals

— Supplies you will need:

Warm water

A jar (with the cap off)

A spoon or something to stir with

About 1/3 cups of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)

A piece of wool or string (about 30cm long)

A pencil

Here are the steps to making a crystal:

STEP 1 Fill the jar half way with warm water. Put the baking soda into the jar. Stir the baking soda to help it dissolve.

STEP 2 Tie the wool around the middle of the pencil.

STEP 3 Place the pencil across the top of the jar with the string hanging in the water.

STEP 4 Look at the wool carefully for a week and write down what you see in the jar.

DONE!
