BARRINGTON An 18-year-old Wakefield resident was stopped for speeding by local police at 2:26 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14 and later charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol-first offense, possession of marijuana, possession of crack cocaine, and refusing to submit to a chemical test.
According to the police report, an officer noticed a car driven by Jared J. Seigel traveling 51 miles per hour on County Road. The officer began to follow the car, which reportedly swerved over the fog line numerous times. The officer eventually ordered the vehicle to the side of the road near the park and ride lot on County.
When he approached the driver’s side window, the officer could allegedly smell the odor of alcohol coming from Mr. Seigel. The officer asked Mr. Seigel where he was coming from; the suspect reportedly said he was on his way home to North Kingstown after spending some time at a Providence strip club.
Mr. Seigel reportedly failed a field sobriety test. During a search of the vehicle, the officer allegedly found a smoking bowl, and later discovered a pill bottle containing a controlled substance in Mr. Seigel’s coat pocket.
There were two passengers in the car; neither was charged.
