Enrichment specialist Claudia Muccino (left) helped organize a surprise assembly in honor of John Gray, interim principal at Nayatt who will end his time at the school on Jan. 27. Mr. Gray's granddaughter, first-grader Morgan Medeiros helped her grandfather collect items given to him as a reminder and thanks for his leadership at the school.
BARRINGTON After serving as interim principal at Nayatt School since September, John Gray is leaving.
Mr. Gray will be replaced by new interim principal Joseph Militello, who was also a former interim principal at East Greenwich High School and former full-time principal at Archie R. Cole Middle School, also in East Greenwich.
The Nayatt School family honored Mr. Gray who served as principal at Barrington High school for more than 30 years before retiring in 2009, at a town meeting on Friday, Jan. 20. The Nayatt School community presented Mr. Gray with a bin of items to remind of him of his time at the elementary school and a "to do" list to keep him busy after he leaves. The third grade chorus sang a friendship song as a send-off to Mr. Gray.
State law limits interim principals to 90 days of temporary service. The Barrington School Committee is currently searching for a full-time Nayatt principal.
