BARRINGTON They couldn’t find his cat inside the vehicle, but police officers did find his marijuana.
On Thursday, Jan. 26 a Barrington police officer on routine patrol spotted a vehicle driven by Dennis Paul Perry, 38, of East Providence, stopped on Washington Road at about 1:20 a.m. The officer approached the vehicle and asked Mr. Perry what he was doing.
Mr. Perry, who lives at 188 Narragansett Ave., reportedly told the officer that he was on his way to South Lake Drive where he planned to take his cat for a walk. The officer grew suspicious of that story when he failed to locate a cat inside the vehicle.
The officer also noticed that Mr. Perry was acting nervously and repeatedly reached toward a bag inside the vehicle. The officer told Mr. Perry to keep his hands on the steering wheel, then ordered the suspect out of the car where he placed handcuffs on him as a safety precaution. Police then searched the bag and reportedly found a small amount of marijuana inside.
Mr. Perry was charged with possession of marijuana-first offense and driving in possession of a controlled substance.

Every time I've formed the thought "I'm going to take the cat for a walk in the early morning hours", I've made a point of bringing the cat along.
