William D. MacQuattie Jr., LTC USA (ret.), died in San Francisco, Calif. on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was the son of the late Alice (Sproull) and William D. MacQuattie, Sr.
He was raised in Barrington, graduated from Barrington High School, the University of Rhode Island where he was a member of the ROTC and spent the next 20 years in the army. He received numerous awards and commendations. He also did three tours of duty in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster.
He retired to San Francisco in 1976. In 1983, he realized his dream when he bought Packer Lake Lodge fishing camp in Sierra City, Calif. He continued as proprietor until his death.
He leaves two brothers, Donald S. and Alan S., both of Barrington, a sister Heather (Bobby) Sugg of Riverside and many adoring nieces and nephews.
He was cremated and a service will be held next spring when the snow is gone from Packer Lake. Donations may be made to a Hospice of your choice. Visit smithmason.com for information and online condolences.
