James P. Elder

James P. Elder, 87, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Helen (Powell) Elder.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Leroy and Elizabeth (Marsh) Elder. Jim was a graduate of Brown University and had a long and distinguished career as a financial analyst, most recently with Janney, Montgomery & Scott.
A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of the Providence Art Club, the University Club, Barrington Yacht Club and Barrington Congregational Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Robert of Barrington, John of Islamorada, Fla. and Charles of Providence; a daughter, Mary of Warren; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be private. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the Barrington Congregational Church. Visit smithmason.com for information and online condolences.
